Alexandre Barros

Alexandre Barros is Principal Oboe of the Minas Gerais Philharmonic Orchestra.

He started his musical studies with his father, Joaquim Inácio Barros. He was a pupil of Afrânio Lacerda, Gustavo Napoli, Carlos Ernest Dias and Arcádio Minczuk. With the Woodwind Quintet of UFMG (Federal University of Minas Gerais), he received the first prize in the V Chamber Music Competition promoted by the institution. With the Trio Jovem de Palhetas, he received an honorable mention in the competition for Youth Soloists of Faculdade Santa Marcelina, São Paulo, and the Youth Soloist award of Osesp (São Paulo State Symphony). Alexandre also received the Prêmio Eleazar de Carvalho at the International Festival of Campos do Jordão.

As a soloist, Alexandre performed with Minas Gerais Symphonic Orchestra, Symphonic Orchestra of UFMG (Federal University of Minas Gerais), Symphonic Orchestra of UFOP (Federal University of Ouro Preto), Sesiminas Orchestra, Filarmônica Nova, Symphonic of Ribeirão Preto and Osesp (São Paulo State Symphony). From 1996 to 1997, he joined the Oboes of Osesp and, invited by maestro Roberto Minczuk, he played later as Principal Oboe of the Symphonic Orchestra of Ribeirão Preto. Nowadays, besides being the Principal Oboe of the Minas Gerais Philharmonic Orchestra, Alexandre is a professor at Centro de Formação Artística da Fundação Clóvis Salgado and also keeps an intense chamber music activity.
