Danny Yau

Danny Yau joined the Hong Kong Sinfonietta as Principal Oboe in 1990, he held the position for sixteen years till fall 2006.

He is a graduate of Master’s degree at the Mannes College of Music with full-scholarship in New York City where he studied with John Ferrillo and Elaine Douvas of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra. Previously, an artist diploma at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts with Peter Cooper and Lynn Levey.

Mr. Yau has appeared as a soloist in many venues and has performed the concertos of Strauss, Mozart, Vaughan Williams, Albinoni, Vivaldi’s, Bach’s double concerto, Demersseman & Berthelemy’s Guillaume Tell, Duo Brillant, Copland’s Quiet City, Martinu and Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante with orchestras.

As a teacher of the oboe and English horn, he was on the faculties of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts and the Chinese University of Hong Kong.

Mr. Yau has been invited as guest Principal Oboe with numerous groups in Asia, he is also active in presenting himself as an oboe and English horn reeds expert, giving workshops in Hong Kong, Japan and Taiwan with his oboe reeds company since 2011.
