The Bass Oboe, with an S-shaped bocal due to its huge size, is rarely used in orchestras.
Only few famous composers have written for this instrument; Richard Strauss and Gustav Holst’s in his werk “The Planets”.
François Lorée started the manufacture of the Bass Oboe at the end of the 19th Century.
After several decades the Firm ceased to make this instrument. It was later rehabilitated in the 80’s and remains a part of our catalogue today.
