The
Oboe d’Amore (pitched in A) with its pear-shaped bell and its slightly
bent bocal, sounds a minor third lower than the Oboe. This instrument
is often used to implement mellow and tender feelings in Baroque music
: Bach often used the Oboe d’Amore in his Cantatas; Handel and Telemann
have written famous sonatas and concerti for this instrument. More
recently, Ravel introduced the Oboe d’Amore in Boléro and Strauss
allowed it an important role in his Sinfonica Domestica.
